My Year of Travel

Between April 2019 and March 2020 I was lucky enough to see some truly incredible places: America, Corsica, Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand. With the +500GB worth of footage I returned home with, I wanted to put something together that showed off each of these places in their best light.

I've always loved the trailers that get released in the build up for documentaries like Planet Earth and Our Planet, so here is my best attempt at making my own - a short cinematic of my year travelling, through the eyes of my drone.

The Tongariro Crossing

The Tongariro Crossing is famously described as one of the best day hikes in New Zealand, and perhaps even the world.

I've done my fair share of hikes over the years in some equally impressive locations: the Italian Dolomites, the Swiss Alps, the Scottish Highlands, Table Mountain, Yosemite Falls, the rocky spikes of the Bavella, so I’d like to think that for any particular hike to stand above the rest, it would be quite a feat. The Tongariro Crossing however, has done just that.

Over the 5-8 hours that it takes you to hike the crossing, you'll climb 'Mt Doom', traverse across what you'd think is the surface of Mars, witness the beauty of the Emerald Lakes (and the smell of rotten eggs...), and wander through the thick, and richly green NZ bush along with the sounds of birds chirping and gushing streams nearby. The constantly changing landscape of this hike it what sets it apart from so many others I've done.

Corsica travel guide - 8 beautiful spots on the island

While I've always loved piecing together my favourite moments travelling to a well fitted tune, it's these more informative videos that allow me to deep dive into my experience, and better help people in planning their own adventures.

It also provides me with an opportunity to put more of the footage I've captured to use. Often I've captured hours worth of footage, from which online 3 minutes it's actually used!

In this video I take you through 8 of my favourite spots on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Corsica, a place that I believe goes a little under the radar when it comes to popular holiday destinations in Europe.

Corsica - Europe's Hidden Gem

From the clear turquoise waters that breach the sandy shores, all the way up to the great granite peaks that dominate the inland - there's a reason Corsica is also known as the "Isle of Beauty".

A place that often goes unnoticed to many travellers in Europe, I've done my best to capture the wonders this island has to offer.

My Year - 2018

2018 was one incredible year, and I managed to get some epic trips packed into it.

Starting in the snowy French Alps, I then had an incredible 10 day trip to Nepal with International Needs UK.

In May I finally travelled to the stunning (and gloomy) Isle of Skye, where I experienced some of the strongest winds I've ever felt in my life. Taking advantage of the Eurostar train, I popped over to Paris for a day the following week, and then had a long weekend getaway to Switzerland in July with a couple of mates. Lauterbrunnen is one of the most stunning places on earth, and looks like something out of a fairytale.

The last trip of the year was in October, where I went to Corsica for a week to get a dose of sun and sand before the years end.

I had a lot of fun putting this video together, and it was only then I realised each of these trips were extremely different to one another - in terms of experience, landscape, and weather.

How to travel Lauterbrunnen

One of my 'how to travel' videos, where I give a detailed account of a recent excursion covering any recommendations, where I stayed, how much the trip cost etc.

While I've always loved piecing together my favourite moments travelling and playing them to music, it's these more informative videos that gain more traction on YouTube, and allow me to help other people plan their next adventure.

In this one specifically, I show off the stunning scenery of the Swiss Alps in summer, and breakdown a 4 day hiking trip some friends and I took to the Jungfrau region in Switzerland.

International Needs Trip - Nepal

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to travel out to Nepal through the company I work for. They have partnered with International Needs UK to help run a two-phased project that began in 2017, and will run until 2021.

Nepal was devastated by an earthquake back in April 2015 that devastated The country, killing 10,000 people and damaging (or destroying completely) around 80% of rural homes.

Much of rural Nepal has not yet recovered and needs help.

The work we were helping carry out was in response to this tragic event, and focused on two programmes specifically. The first was to improve the lives of rural families in the villages of Pangretar, Attarpur and Tekanpur through a livelihoods programme. The second was to help women from rural communities through a Women's Empowerment Programme based in Kathmandu.

Despite the hardships these people have faced over the past 3 years, they are some of the friendliest people on the planet. I hope that this video not only captures how stunning Nepal is, but how wonderful the people are.

Philippines 2017

A jam-packed 17 days in the Philippines with some great company. Sticking to Palawan, we travelled to Puerto Princesa, Port Barton, El Nido, and then took a 5 day island hopping to Coron with a company called Tao. A stunning country that I very much hope I return to one day.
